What’s Plywood All About | 3 Accent Chairs Made Of It (I/II)

Plywood is a term widely mentioned within the furniture world, but, what’s it really about? Is it real wood? Is it fake? Today we will respond to these questions and we will also show you three incredible chairs made of plywood, including the iconic and so loved Shell chair. let’s begin!

What’s Plywood?

According to Wikipedia, plywood is “a material made from thin layers or ‘folds’ of wood veneer that are glued together with adjacent layers whose wood grain rotates up to 90 degrees from each other. It is an engineered wood in the family of manufactured boards including medium-density fibreboard (MDF) and particle board (chipboard). “

So as you can see this is NOT natural wood, it is more of an artificial wood that has been created thanks to some engineering fundamentals. As it is a different type of wood, it has particular properties that differ from the original. For example, it is able to offer more movement and designers use it to produce their creative and elegant models, such as the following accent chairs that we will show you.

  • The Shell chair.
  • The DW chair.
  • The Spline chair.
